Understanding Bitumen Penetration Grade 60/70.

Bitumen 60/70 is commonly considered for asphalt and infrastructure applications, but suitability depends on the project specification, climate, mix design, standards, and engineer or buyer approval.

What the Grade Name Means

The 60/70 designation refers to a penetration range under a specified test method and conditions. It should not be treated as a complete specification because softening point, ductility, flash point, solubility, viscosity, loss on heating, and other parameters may also apply.

Common Applications

Potential uses include asphalt concrete, road paving, airport and bridge works, maintenance, waterproofing, roofing, and selected industrial applications, subject to engineering and specification requirements.

Packaging and Shipment

New steel drums, jumbo bags, road tanker, or bulk shipment may be considered according to supply, climate, volume, route, storage, heating, and receiving capability.

Documents and Inspection

The agreed transaction may include an issuer-attributed quality certificate or Certificate of Analysis, origin, quantity, packing, commercial, and transport documents, plus independent inspection where agreed.

What Buyers Should Confirm

Confirm the full standard, parameter limits, test methods, quantity, packaging, destination, Incoterm, shipment window, required inspector, document wording, and acceptance procedure.

Commercial Qualification

Availability, origin, packing, price, allocation, and delivery schedule change with market and logistics conditions and should only be relied upon when stated in a valid quotation or contract.
